In early February, we added a new member to the family...s/he is a beautiful Subaru Forester who we've decided to name 'Mafinga' (yes, we're VERY creative)! She's a blue beauty and has served us well thus far, ensuring that we're able to get our groceries and market produce when needed! Then...we finally installed our fireplace, which we were very happy to discover can also be used for cooking/heating food! And finally, our vegetable garden is BLOOMING! It has been amazing watching the dhania, lettuce and spinach grow from seedlings to full fledged plants/vegetables! It's true what they say that farming is a career that requires a lot of faith and patience because you never quite know if/when you'll see those little shoots or whether they'll survive the environmental conditions they're subjected to. We feel blessed...and excited about our forthcoming veggie lasagna with our very own homemade spinach! Enjoy the pictures...

What we've been up to until now...
Departing: Nairobi, Kenya --- Arriving: Mafinga, Tanzania
After we left Nairobi at the beginning of September, we traveled to Mafinga, Tanzania, by road over a 3-day period. We decided to make full use of our trip by stopping in Moshi to do some mini-sightseeing and in Morogoro to visit friends (and get some very delicious home-cooked food...thanks Sarah)! We took turns to drive, alternating on a daily basis, and we were lucky to get a glimpse of the peak of the great Mt. Kilimanjaro!
Shortly after arrival, we moved into our new house and went straight into a work routine...yes, life must go on! We're now both officially employed in the forestry industry and our work stations are about 20 meters apart. We are REALLY trying to keep our private life separate from our professional ones...yeah right! We travel to and from home together on our bikes (including for our lunch break) and 'try' to maintain a professional attitude at work!
At home...
...we've finally settled/unpacked into our house and are enjoying it. Here are a couple of pictures to give you an idea of how some things are...
Other highlights...we celebrated Karen's birthday in October (with a brilliantly executed birthday surprise from Nyamu) and have been experimenting in the kitchen (where our love was born)! Again, pictorial evidence...
More later...
